Waiting for Justice

The controversial killing of Sgt Joe Campbell on 25th February 1977 at the gates of

Cushendall RUC station remains unresolved. In 2016 a fresh inquest was ordered. One of Sgt Joe

Campbell’s daughters, my wife, is pictured at the place it happened.

The image is the first in a planed series looking at the issue of Legacy Inquests in Northern Ireland.

There are more than 80 cases still outstanding relating to killings that happened more than 40 years

ago. The issues relating to these events remain contentious in Northern Ireland politics. The families

were granted fresh inquests in 2016, however the funding for these to take place remains locked in

the political process.
